KCD: Future Chefs Program

We take leadership very seriously. As Canada’s leading duck producer we put a great deal of time, energy, resources and pride in the many ways we are engaged in the world of food.

Nowhere is this more evident than our Future Chefs program, the only one of its kind in Canada!

The Great Amazing Duck Race

The GADR is our flag ship property where each year, we create a cooking competition unlike any other. In addition to the recipe/cooking portion of this event, this is as much about providing Ontario’s culinary students with a true, “Farm-to-Fork” experience.

What excites us about this event: each year the colleges put more time and effort than the year before. Some even have competitions within their school to select who will represent them in this unique event!
And perhaps this biggest pay-back is the fact so many grads who have participated in the GADR, reach out to us in their place of employment when they see their restaurant uses King Cole as the duck brand of choice.

Other Program Highlights:

  • We sponsor Iron Chef and Black Box competitions at a number of Ontario college culinary programs.

  • We provide product and lab-time hours, so important in the course curriculum and a way to offset their costs

  • We have worked with several of the schools in the area of product development: featuring these products for sampling and sale in our Farm Fresh store, located on our main farm.

  • We also extend an “open door” invite for these chefs to participate in other company events including Duck-Fest and our Duck School cooking classes, as a means to provide them with more hands-on experience.

As the name Future Chefs clearly implies, these students are the future foundation for the Foodservice and Hospitality industry. It is, therefore, so important to see they receive as much support and opportunity as possible to hone their craft and enter the work-place with confidence and skill.
